In His “Sermon on the Plain,” Jesus overturns all of our normal ways of thinking about the “good life.” The poor, the hungry, the weeping, and the hated are called blessed, while the rich, the full, the happy, and the well-respected are warned that they are treading on spiritually-treacherous ground. These words make little sense based solely on our experience. But Jesus would have us set our sights on things far greater than health, wealth, and happiness in this present life. Through His own death and resurrection, He is coming to win for us a Kingdom that lasts forever. We pray that His Holy Spirit would give us the grace to pursue the greatness of that Kingdom and not place our hope in the good (but passing away) things of this life.

We also have the opportunity to thank God for the gift of our Lutheran Schools this weekend!
