Freedom from Sin’s Grip
Scripture: John 8:34–36
Jesus speaks plainly about slavery to sin. We may think we are free whenever we do whatever we want, yet repeated patterns of anger, dishonesty, greed, or self-centeredness can begin to control us. Sin is not only a collection of bad choices; it also reveals the ways we turn from trusting God and His goodness. God’s Law is a gift because it exposes the false promises that keep us trapped.
Jesus does not leave us to free ourselves. He is the Son who makes us free. Our hope rests not in pretending that sin is harmless or in trying to earn our way out, but in receiving Christ’s forgiveness and new life. In Him, we are no longer defined by our failures or bound to keep repeating them.
Prayer: Jesus, show me honestly where sin has gained a hold on me. Forgive me for the sake of Your saving work, and lead me into the freedom You give. Amen.
Application question: What recurring attitude or behavior might you need to bring honestly before God and His forgiving Word?
