The Debt We Could Never Pay

Scripture: Romans 3:23–24

Reflection
Jesus’ parable describes a servant who owes his master an impossible debt. The amount is intentionally overwhelming. There is no realistic way for the servant to repay it. That is a picture of our situation before God. Sin is not merely a collection of small mistakes. It is our failure to trust God, love Him, and live according to His good will. We cannot repair our relationship with God by our own efforts.

But the heart of the Gospel is that God does not demand payment we could never make. In pity, the master forgives the entire debt. In an even greater way, Jesus takes our debt upon Himself and pays for our sin with His own life. At the cross, the debt that we could never repay is erased. Our salvation rests not on what we can accomplish, but on what Jesus has already done.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I confess that I could never repay what I owe You. Thank You for sending Jesus to bear my sin and pay my debt at the cross. Help me to live with humility and gratitude because I have received mercy I could never earn. Amen.
