Present Suffering, Promised Glory
Scripture: Romans 8:18
Reflection:
Paul doesn’t pretend that being God’s child erases hardship. He says plainly that we suffer now. But he sets that suffering on a scale next to something far heavier: the glory that will be revealed in us. Whatever weighs on you right now — grief, fatigue, disappointment, fear — Paul isn’t minimizing it. He’s placing it next to eternity and saying the scales don’t balance. The suffering is real, but it isn’t the final word.
This is the heart of Christian hope: not denial that life hurts, but confidence that the hurt is not the end of the story. Because Jesus suffered and then rose, His pattern becomes ours. The cross came before the empty tomb. Your present struggle, whatever it is, is not evidence that God has abandoned His promises — it’s the “not yet” that precedes the glory still to come.
Prayer:
Lord, my suffering feels heavy today, but You tell me it cannot be compared to what’s coming. Give me eyes to see beyond this moment to the glory You’ve promised. Help me hold on. Amen.
Application Question: What present struggle do you need to hold up next to God’s promise of future glory today?
