Thanks Be to God

Scripture: Romans 7:24-25
“Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!”

Reflection
Paul’s cry of “Wretched man that I am!” isn’t the end of the story — it’s the hinge on which the whole passage turns. The question “Who will set me free?” gets an immediate answer: God does, through Jesus Christ! Not more effort. Not more willpower. Not a longer list of rules kept more carefully. A Person. When the sinking feeling of failure creeps in — the sense that you’re still messing up in the same old ways — that’s the moment to look out, to look outside yourself toward the One who has already rescued you.

Your security was never meant to rest in flawless performance. It rests entirely in Christ, who has already dealt with your sin at the cross.

Prayer
Thanks be to You, God, through Jesus Christ my Lord! When I feel wretched and defeated, remind me that my rescue doesn’t depend on me — it depends on You, and You have already secured it. Amen.

Application Question
When you feel like a failure, do you tend to look inward for a fix or outward to Jesus? What would it look like to practice looking outward today?
