The War Within

Scripture: Romans 7:21-23
“I find then the principle that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good. For I joyfully concur with the law of God in the inner man, but I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members.”

Reflection
Notice that Paul writes this not about his past before Christ, but about his present life as an apostle. Even someone who walked and talked with Jesus face-to-face still felt this civil war raging inside — wanting to do good, and finding evil right there alongside that desire. If you’ve ever wondered whether something is wrong with you because you still struggle with sin as a believer, Paul’s words are strangely comforting. This is normal Christian experience, not a sign you’ve failed or that God has given up on you.

The point isn’t to make peace with sin, but to stop being shocked by the battle and instead look for where real rescue comes from.

Prayer
Jesus, thank You that my ongoing struggle with sin doesn’t disqualify me as Your child. Give me honesty about the war within me, and keep me from despair when I fall short. Amen.
