Alive to God, Sent for the World

Scripture: Romans 6:10–11 — “The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”

Reflection: The sermon that inspired this week’s devotions was preached the weekend of America’s 250th birthday, and it closed with a reminder that the nation — and the world — needs the children of God to shine His light and speak His truth. As Americans, many of us have received much. As Christians, we have received far more: freedom from sin, a new identity, and the very Spirit of God at work in us.

Being “alive to God” isn’t a private, internal experience meant to stay hidden. It’s meant to overflow into how we treat our neighbors, how we steward our resources, and how we love the people God has placed around us. We are not our own — we are bound to Christ now, and that binding sends us outward, into a hurting world, as faithful stewards of everything He has entrusted to us.

Prayer: Father, thank You for counting me dead to sin and alive to You in Christ Jesus. Make me a faithful steward of all You’ve given me — my freedom, my resources, my relationships — for the good of those around me and for Your glory. Amen.
