The Love That Changes You

Scripture: Romans 6:5–6 — “For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.”

Reflection: Think about what happens when someone genuinely tells you, “I love you.” Do you want to hurt them, or do you find yourself wanting to respond in love? In Christ, God has said to us: “Even though you are a sinner bound to Adam, I love you. I forgive you. I’ve given you My Son and My Spirit to breathe new life and purpose into you. You are no longer a rebel destined for the grave — you are My child, destined for life.”

That kind of love doesn’t just save us from something; it changes us into someone new. We are no longer slaves forced to serve sin’s demands. We are free. When we fail, we run back to the Father to receive forgiveness and new power. We are no longer chained to the old identity that once defined us.

Prayer: Lord, let Your love for me sink in deeply enough that it reshapes my desires, not just my beliefs. When I stumble, remind me to run back to You rather than away from You. Amen.

Application Question: How does knowing you are loved and forgiven — rather than simply trying harder — change your motivation to resist a particular temptation you’re facing?
