Peace with God

Scripture

“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” — Romans 5:1 (NASB)

Reflection

Peace with God is not a feeling we have to manufacture or a spiritual state we have to maintain by our performance. It is a reality that belongs to everyone who has been justified by faith. The warfare is over. The relationship has been made whole. God is not at odds with those who are in Christ Jesus.

This does not mean that life will always feel peaceful, or that our relationship with God will always feel close and warm. Feelings are real, and they deserve to be brought honestly before the Lord. But our feelings are not the final word. God’s Word is the final word, and He says: the relationship is restored. When anxiety creeps in, when guilt whispers that you are not welcome in God’s presence, bring those feelings into the light and let the truth shine on them. You have peace with God—not because you have earned it, but because Jesus has secured it.

Prayer

Father, thank You for the peace that Jesus has made possible. On the days when I feel distant from You or weighed down by guilt, remind me that the relationship is whole. Help me to live in the reality of peace with You, even when my emotions tell a different story. You’ve got me. I am at peace. Amen.

Personal Application

Is there something—a recurring sin, a lingering guilt, a sense of unworthiness—that is robbing you of the experience of peace with God? What would it mean today to take God at His word and rest in the peace that Christ has secured for you?
