Honest About Our Divided Loyalties

Scripture: Romans 7:18–25

We can speak sincerely about loving God and still find our actions and attitudes pulling in another direction. We resist being accountable to others, and we resist surrendering control to God. This week’s sermon does not excuse this hypocrisy; it names it honestly. We need more than a clever answer or a new set of rules. We need rescue.

Confession begins when we stop pretending that our hearts are perfectly ordered. We can tell God the truth about our selfishness, our divided loyalties, and our desire to have life on our own terms. The good news is that our failures do not have the final word. Jesus came to save sinners, including those who recognize themselves in this struggle.

Prayer: Merciful God, I confess that I often want control more than I want Your will. Forgive me for my divided heart, and lead me to rely on the mercy You give through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Application question: Where do I need to stop making excuses and honestly confess my need for God’s mercy?
