The Son Who Was Rejected

Scripture: 1 Peter 2:6–7

Behold, I am laying in Zion a cornerstone, chosen and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.

Jesus tells the parable knowing what is about to happen to Him. The tenants reject and kill the owner’s son, and this points directly toward Christ’s death on the cross. The religious leaders would reject God’s chosen Son, seeking to preserve their own authority.

Yet what appears to be the ultimate act of human rebellion becomes the means of our salvation. Jesus is rejected and killed, but God uses His death to forgive sinners. The cornerstone that people reject becomes the foundation of God’s saving work.

Our salvation does not rest on being better tenants than everyone else. It rests on the Son who gave Himself for us.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You were rejected and put to death for sinners like me. Thank You for bearing my sin and rebellion upon the cross. Help me build my life upon You, the precious cornerstone, and trust completely in Your saving grace. Amen.

Application Question:
How does knowing that your salvation rests on Christ rather than on your own faithfulness change the way you approach God today?
