Using Freedom to Serve

Scripture: Romans 15:1–3

We naturally want to use our freedom for ourselves. If we have a right to do something, we can easily conclude that we should insist on that right. But Paul points us toward a different way: those who are strong are to bear with the weaknesses of others rather than pleasing themselves.

Jesus is our model. He did not live to please Himself. He willingly gave Himself for us. Christian freedom is therefore not primarily about asking, “What am I allowed to do?” It is about asking, “How can I use what God has given me to love and serve someone else?”

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You did not live for Yourself but gave Yourself for me. Teach me to use my freedoms, abilities, and resources in ways that serve others rather than simply pleasing myself. Give me a heart that seeks the good of my neighbor. Amen.
