Hope That Knows How the Story Ends

Scripture: Romans 15:13

Christian hope is more than optimism. Optimism says that things may eventually work out; Christian hope rests on the promises of God. Because Jesus died and rose again, we know where the story is headed: Jesus wins, His people rise, and all things will be made new. That certainty gives us a reason to persevere even when today’s circumstances are difficult.

Paul’s prayer is that God would fill us with joy and peace as we believe, so that we would abound in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Hope is not something we manufacture by trying harder to be positive. It is something God gives as we trust Him and His promises.

Prayer:
God of hope, fill me with joy and peace as I trust You today. When circumstances make me discouraged, remind me that Your promises are certain and that Jesus has already won the victory. Help me live today as a person who abounds in hope. Amen.

Application:
Where do you most need to replace discouragement or uncertainty with confidence in God’s promises?
