Make Room for Differences
Scripture: Romans 14:5–6
Reflection
The believers Paul addresses had different convictions about matters such as food and special days. Their practices looked different because their backgrounds, experiences, and sensitivities were different. Yet Paul points them toward a deeper unity: whatever they do, they are to do it in honor of the Lord.
Our differences today may involve worship preferences, alcohol, politics, or countless other matters. We can be tempted to turn these differences into matters of ultimate importance. But when Christ is our shared Master, differences do not have to become divisions.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the many people You gather into Your Church. Give me grace to appreciate differences rather than fear them. Help me distinguish what is truly central to the faith from matters on which faithful Christians may differ. Make Your Church richer through our differences and stronger through our unity in Christ. Amen.
Application Question
What is one difference between you and another Christian that you could choose to appreciate rather than criticize?
