Pray Instead of Trying to Fix
Scripture: Romans 14:4; Philippians 1:3–4
Reflection
One of the greatest gifts we can give another person is prayer. Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote that the highest form of relationship we exercise with anyone else is when we pray for them. Prayer recognizes something important: we do not have the power to change people, but Jesus does.
Sometimes we trust Jesus with our own salvation and forgiveness while struggling to trust that He is at work in someone else’s life. Prayer is an act of surrender. Instead of carrying the crushing burden of fixing another person, we place them in the hands of their Master and ours.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I bring before You the people I am tempted to control, criticize, or fix. Work in their lives according to Your good purposes, and work in me as well. Teach me to love others through prayer and to trust You with what I cannot change. Amen.
Application Question
Who is one person you can stop trying to fix and instead commit to praying for today?
