When God Doesn’t Explain

Scripture: Job 38:1–4

“Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said… ‘Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.'” (Job 38:1, 4)

Job spent much of his life crying out for a “why” behind his suffering. When God finally answered, He didn’t explain Himself — He revealed His greatness, power, and wisdom instead. The Psalms often do the same; many end without a tidy resolution to the suffering they describe. This is sometimes how God works with us, too. He doesn’t always pull back the curtain. But He does invite us to know Him — His character, His power, His faithfulness — even when the explanations don’t come. And at the cross of Jesus, we come to know Him best.

Prayer: Lord, when I don’t receive the answers I’m looking for, help me remember who You are. You are great, You are good, and You have not abandoned me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Application Question: Think of a time God didn’t explain Himself to you the way you wanted. Looking back, what did you learn about His character instead?
