Dead to Sin, Alive to God

Scripture: Romans 6:1–4 — “What shall we say then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?… We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

Reflection: Paul’s answer to “should we keep sinning so grace can increase?” is an emphatic no — not because grace has limits, but because something has fundamentally changed in those who belong to Christ. In baptism, we were united with Jesus in His death and raised with Him to new life. We are no longer who we once were. To deliberately keep living in sin would be to deny the very identity we’ve been given.

This is not about earning favor through better behavior. It’s about recognizing reality: you have a new identity, and new power — not power to do whatever you want, but power to live within God’s good design as a genuine blessing to those around you.

Prayer: Father, thank You for uniting me to Christ in His death and resurrection. Help me to live today in light of who I actually am in Him, not who I used to be in Adam. Amen.
